Peor aún ¿quién no ha descubierto que la canción, aunque dejemos de tararearla, sigue sonando en nuestras mentes y no nos la podemos quitar de la cabeza? Este es un fenómeno normal que suele ocurrirnos a todos, pero la investigación psicológica ha descubierto casos que van un paso más allá: la persona realmente escucha la melodía como si estuviese sonando en la radio.
Esto se llama “alucinación musical”. Salvo por este peculiar fenómeno, las personas que sufren de alucinaciones musicales no presentan ninguna otra molestia psíquica.
Ramon Mocellin y colegas expusieron casos de personas con alucinaciones musicales:
El primero es el de una mujer de 82 años que vivía en una casa alejada en el campo. Esta mujer llamó a la policía quejándose del volumen de la música a sus alrededores y hasta hizo que el marido buscara entre los alejados vecinos el origen de la música. Eventualmente la mujer se dio cuenta de que esta música no provenía más que de su cabeza. Como dolencia sólo presentaba cierta sordera, pero en lo demás estaba sana.
El segundo caso es el de un surfista de 62 años. Este hombre se quejaba de escuchar los primeros acordes del éxito de Jimi Hendrix “Voodoo Child” en forma continúa. Al margen de una ligera dificultad para oír (y un consumo esporádico de cannabis) este hombre no tenía ninguna enfermedad.
Mocelli afirma que las personas que sufren de alucinación musical rápidamente se dan cuenta de que la música proviene de sus propias mentes, lo que los diferencia de las alucinaciones piscoticas típicas.
Mocelli y su equipo están trabajando para encontrar el origen neurológico del fenómeno pero ya tienen una hipótesis. Según estos investigadores lo que podría suceder en estos casos es que el cerebro esta intentando compensar con recuerdos aquello que no llega de una fuente exterior. Al igual que en el caso de las alucinaciones visuales en los ciegos, puede tratarse de una actividad cerebral alterada que trae desde el recuerdo lo que no obtiene en este caso desde los oídos.
